| Arrival: 05/05/2004 | |
Description: She was recovered by a local man, who found her in a cardboard box on the roadside. She was frightened, but clearly lucky to be alive. Her rescuer cared for her for a fortnight before finding out about WAR and bringing her to the office. Before Bam Bam arrived, the people looking after her at WAR gave her a stuffed turtle to cling to for comfort. She was very attracted to the turtle, so much so that when we tried to take it to wash it, she would scream and cry for almost the whole day. After many weeks with the turtle she stopped letting go of it at all, and would sit for the entire day, rocking back and forth and banging her head on the back of the turtle. This behaviour was quite troubling, as she was not swinging or socializing with the other babies. After a few weeks we decided it would be best to take the turtle away from her. It was a difficult day and she was very upset with us, but since then her behaviour has improved considerably. She now played with the other babies and swings around her cage like a regular baby. |
