Tony and Jita
Tony (male), born wild in 1991 and Jita (female), born wild in 1993, both have similar backgrounds, coming to us after spending their early years as tourist attractions in the bars of Patong (Phuket); being forced to smoke cigarettes and drink alcohol. After numerous other pairings that did not work out these two came together in 2004 and have developed a good relationship, although Jita is clearly the boss! Due to their histories their rehabilitation has been a long process but we hope that they will start to produce a family in the near future.

Mee and Jojo
Jojo (male), born wild in 1999 and Mee(female), a year younger, formed an immediate bond when they became cage mates as juveniles, and have been together ever since. They are both close to reaching sexual maturity so it is very likely that they will produce offspring soon. Jojo was originally a pet, whose owner gave him over voluntarily to the GRP, whilst Mee had been kept in a cage outside a restaurant in Bangkok.

Annie and Aye Aye

Annie (female), born wild in 1995, was kept as a pet and had a finger missing on one hand and a very matted coat, with dreadlocked fur, when she came to GRP. Aye Aye (male), three years Annie’s junior, was being kept in a cage in a temple, when a married couple took pity on him and brought him to GRP. This couple has formed a solid bond and we feel that they are strong candidates for having a family and being successfully released in the near future.

Mai and Kushta
Born at the GRP in 1997, Mai (male) had a baby with his original cage mate Shirley and the family was awaiting release when Shirley and the baby were attacked and killed by a python in August 2007. Kushta (female), born wild in 1990 and a former pet was used for photographs. She has also experienced the loss of her mate and offspring, having had two babies in captivity who became sick and died, and losing her mate Bozo when released into the wild with her third baby, Nat.  Fortunately, Nat is a healthy male gibbon who has been relocated to a cage with two other juveniles so that his mum can make room for the new man in her life! Both have proved to be great parents, so we hope that soon Mai and Kushta will start a family of their own.

Santi and Jonus

Santi (male) was born at the GRP on Christmas Eve 1999 but was rejected by his parents. Jonus (Female), born wild in 2000 and voluntarily handed over to GRP by her owner, has shared a cage with Santi before, however this is the first time that they have been on their own together, and as they are now sexually mature, we are hoping they will become more than just friends!  Both were subordinate at feeding time in their former respective cages so already have something in common!

Tom (female), born wild in 1986 was kept as a pet, whilst Ollie (Male), born wild in 1989 was confiscated and brought to GRP after spending years being forced to smoke cigarettes and drink alcohol for the amusement of tourists around the bars of Phuket. They only have eyes for each other. Tom likes nothing better than to scare the wits out of new volunteers passing by her cage by jumping at them, but when it comes to Ollie she shows a very tender side. They spend all day grooming each other and even though they are an older pair, we still hope that they will have a family together.
