BamBam

BamBam

Came to us in 2004 at the age about 9 months (estimation). After being found abandoned in a cardboard box by the side of the road in Bangkok. Now a strong and healthy gibbon, she is enjoying her time with cage mates Songkran and Nat. We have every hope of them being returned to the wild in the future.

Nat

Nat

Nat was born at our Rehabilitation Site on 19th September 2004. His parent Bozo and Kushta. The family was released into the forest but unfortunately Bozo went missing, result back to the rehabilitation site as they could not stay in the forest on their own. Once Nat was old enough, we separated him away from his mother to join fellow play mates Bam Bam and Songkran.

Songkran

Songkran

We named Songkran after the Thai festival on the 13th April, the date that he arrived at the GRP. He was confiscated from a beach photographer in Patong, Phuket in 2004 at the age about 6 months old, far too young to be taken from his mother. He was malnourished and weak and needed special attention. Today although small for his age, he is energetic and sociable and along with cage mates BamBam and Nat; is well on the way to a bright future in the wild.

Jorn

Jorn

Jorn was born in the wild in 2004, ad soon become another unlucky victims of the wild animal trade. Luckily for him, how owner decided to release him overnight at our Rehabilitation Site. he looks so similar to his cage mate Muki that is hard to tell them apart and we love to watch them play together. Jorn was found to be free of disease, and now they are both in a big cage with Cop. Now on his way to become a free gibbon one day.

Muki

Muki

Muki was born in 2004 and came to us in 2006, after being bought off a beach photographer by a well meaing tourist. Whilst the intention was good, unfortunately this act only reinforces the wild animal trade, for the photographer will probably have bought another baby gibbon, poached from the wild, with the money. For all three Muki, Jorn cage mate Cop, a life in the wild now beckons.

Cop

Cop

Cop, born in 2002, was confiscated from a photographer at Patong Beach Phuket by a policeman who asked that she be named after him, hence the name "Cop". Once clear of the disease Hepatitis A, Cop was moved up to our Rehabilitation site and now shares a cage with another two young gibbons Muki and Jorn they are very happy at the moment and in the future we hope to find him a compatible mate to be released into the wild with.

Elizabeth

Elizabeth

Born wild in 2006 and sold into the pet trade, Elizabeth came to us in February 2007. Deprived of her mother's security, she has a habit of hugging herself whenever we go near her cage. We have recently introduced her to a cage mate called Bobbie, which we hope will help distract her from hugging herself.

Bobbie

Bobbie

Bobbie was born in 2006, after having her freedom and parents' love was snatched away by poachers, she came to us as a petrified 6 month old baby. Bobbie would squeal and try to hide whenever we went near her cage; however after finding a cage mate in Honey for a short period of time, her confidence has improved greatly and we look forward to the day when she can be released. Bobbie has now been moved into a cage with Elizabeth.

Epson

Epson

He arrived on the 2nd of February 2008 after being mistreated by his owner in Phuket, which resulted him biting their children. A neighbor brought Epson to the GRP and once old enough we hope to return him to the forest where he belongs, Epson is now with his playmate; Sylvia who are of similar age.

Sylvia

Sylvia

At present we know very little about Sylvia and can only estimate her age, as her owner files down all her teeth. We think she is around 9 months old and is extremely malnourished. We know that she was confiscated from a life as a beach photographer's prop in Patong, Phuket. Where she will have been forced to stay awake for long hours surrounded by loud noise, flashing lights, and being passed from tourist to tourist. A least now her future prospects are much brighter at the GRP.

Seagame

Seagame

Seagame arrived at the GRP on the 10th April 2008 from the Prachuap Khiri Khan province. Here she was being kept as a pet, however her owners decided they wanted a better life for her and she was donated tot the project. Seagame arrived 5 days after Beauty, so we introduced them to each other and they are are often seen hugging. They now have one more play mates; Jane who they love playing with.

Jane

Jane

Born wild in 2007, a resident of Phuket brought Jane from a beach photographer as a gift for his wife. After 2 months, the couple realized that they did not have the time to look after and she was brought to the GRP for release back into the wild one day. Whilst still being fed milk, she would cry a lot and rock back and forth when we left her side. However, she has just been introduced to some playmates; Seagame and Beauty, who are all of similar age and are enjoying each others company.

Beauty

Beauty

On the 5th April 2008, Beauty was collected from Patong police after being confiscated from her owner. She was being exploited for use as a tourist attraction and was frequently having her photo taken in exchange for money, which is illegal. Beauty now shared a cage with Seagame and Jane.

Honey

Honey

Honey is an Agile gibbon who arrived at the GRP in March 2007. We estimated her age to be about 2 year upon arrival. We introduced her to a playmate called Bobbie, who whe helped bring confidence to; however due the her not being a white-handed gibbon we have separeated them until we can find her a suiable mate.

Max

Max

Born in 2000, Max was only 6months old when he was rescued and needed a lot of attention. He was being used as a tourist attraction at the Dumnern-sa-doek floating market in Ratchaburi. Max spent 2 years at the WARF animal shelter before arriving at the GRP in 2002. He spent a few years in different juvenile groups and was then tried with several cage mates before being paired with a female named Sabai in 2007. Sadly, Sabai died in May 2008 and Max is currently alone while we find with another suither female.

Lamut

Lamut

Born wild in 2002, Lamut was bought to the GRP in 2004 after being confiscated by the chief of the Khao Phra Theaw Non-hunting area and the National Park Wildlife and Plant Conservation department staff. Lamut was being used as a tourist attraction in Patong as a photographers prop. When Lamut arrived, she was found to have the Hepatitis A virus, however within a year she was fully recovered and the virus had cleared. At present, we are trying to pair her with a male but an attempt with Max has proved unsuccessful.

Bobo

Bobo

Bobo was brought to the GRP in January 2005 when he was 4 years old. He was being kept as a pet in Phuket town, but as he grew bigger he became more aggressive and his owners could no longer take care of him. Bobo was paired with Endoo and they got on very well, but  unfortunately her mental problems resulted in them having to be separated and he is now housed by himself. We are awaiting a suitable female gibbon for Bobo so he can be released back into the forest in the future.

George

George

Born in 2002 in the wild, George arrived at GRP at the age of 2. He was found to be infected with the disease Hepatitis A, most likely contracted by the owner injecting him with drugs to keep him awake at night. Now fully recovered, George is a friendly gibbon who loves to play and he seems to be very smart. George will soon begin the process of finding a mate and being returned to his original birthplace, the wild.

Champ

Champ

Born in the wild in 2002, Champ arrived at GRP in 2004 at 2 years old; he was already infected with the disease Hepatitis A, most likely contracted by the owner injecting him with drugs to keep him awake at night so they could take him round bars. Now disease-free, he is strong and healthy gibbon who shares a cage with two other boys, including George. Champ will one day be paired with a female gibbon with the hope that they will start a family and a new life in the forest.

KhunSaul

KhunSaul

On the 13thApril, the date that he arrived at GRP. He was confiscated from a beach photographer in Patong in 2004. At that time we estimated his age at two years old. Khunsaul was keep by the same owner as Songkran and they came to us at the same time. He has 2 playmates, George and Champ who are of similar age and enjoy each others company. In a couple of years we will try to find Khunsaul a mate and hopefully be able to release into the forest.

O

O

Born wild in 2000, O was then captured and kept in a cage outside a restaurant in Bangkok. Due to malnourishment and the stress of captivity he has failed to mature both physically and mentally. He has improved considerably since being with cage mate Cop, but is still seen to suck his thumb.
